Our Story
9 Beats Music Inc. was founded by Yi Chen and Yongjia Yu, two lifelong percussion artists from China with decades of performance and teaching experience. Before coming to Canada in 2019, they served as area directors and lead instructors at NineBeats Drum Corp in Heilongjiang, China — part of the renowned NineBeats Music Education, which has over 1,300 schools in China and one in the U.S.
Driven by a shared passion for rhythm and education, they brought their artistry to Prince Edward Island to share the joy of percussion with local communities. Combining traditional Chinese drumming, Western drum set techniques, and African rhythm training, they aim to inspire children and adults to express themselves through the universal language of rhythm.
Together with local partners, 9 Beats Music Inc. is building a welcoming space where creativity, culture, and music connect — one beat at a time.
